Turner Summer Home Club / Interurban Station #54
28404 Jefferson Ave.

Built in 1924 to serve as a German athletic club (a “Turnverein” which turned into “Turner Club”), it was also a stop on the interurban railway that ran through St. Clair Shores until the late 1920s. The building was purchased by the VFW in 1939. It was torn down in the 1950s.

After the building was purchased by the VFW, it was remodeled; the Bruce Post met there for the first time in 1943. The present VFW building opened in 1957, but the Post was established in 1934 and was named after charter member Walter F. Bruce who died in 1935.

Now: Walter F. Bruce VFW Post #1146
