Introduction to Italian Genealogy
Presented by Dan Fantore
September 27, 2018
7:00 PM

This presentation includes an overview of Italian immigration to the U.S., Michigan, and Detroit. For those who do not know their ancestral hometown, sources will be identified that aid in the location of the Italian city. Italian sources will be presented and explained, including civil registration and church records for births, marriages, processetti, and deaths. Italian naming practices, Italian genealogical vocabulary, and Internet resources for Italian research will be reviewed. Audience members may present Italian challenges or brick walls for case studies.

Dan Fantore began researching his family history in 1995. He was a family history center volunteer librarian in Annandale, Virginia for eight years. He also earned his certification as a Certified Genealogical Records Specialist. Dan teaches various classes in genealogy and family history.

The Lighter Side of Genealogy:
Mistakes and How to Learn from Them
Presented by Bill O'Reilly and Becky O'Reilly
October 25, 2018
7:00 PM

Bill and Becky O’Reilly will display numerous actual blunders they have found in their genealogical research to show that there are plenty of laughs to be found in looking through posted family trees… and how you can learn from the mistakes of others. This is an excellent program for those brand new to genealogy and a fun time for those with some genealogy experience.

Mr. and Mrs. O’Reilly run the business My AncesStory, which they began in 2011.

Both genealogy presentations will take place in the Library’s Local History Center. No prior genealogy experience is required. Everyone is welcome to these free presentations.
